The village of Skala Eressos is a coastal village on the island of Lesvos, which is one of the most touristy places one should visit when coming to the island. It is located four kilometers away from the village of Eressos and is connected to it via the central verdant road lined with mulberry trees, plane trees, and fig trees that cross the beautiful plain of Eressos. Its beach has wonderfully clean and cool waters, which have won the European Blue Flag award several times. Visitors come from different groups, from Greek and foreign young visitors preferring alternative holidays to families with children. And that's logical since Skala Eressos combines many different types of vacations. In Skala Eressos, you will find shops for all hours of the day, from restaurants and fish taverns with excellent Mediterranean cuisine, to cafes and bars. All these are set up on wooden decks, providing an extremely summery and relaxing landscape. It is located on the southwest side of the island. It is 85 km away from Mytilene and about 22 km from the fossilized forest and museum of Sigri. Skala Eressos is also known because Theophrastus, one of the Seven Sages of antiquity, and Sappho of Lesbos, the "10th muse" according to Plato and a renowned lyric poetess of antiquity who praised love, originated from here. Sappho continues to influence even contemporary art, as modern sculptors like Theodoros Papagiannis, Giorgos Houliaras, Kyriakos Rokos, and Loukas Loukidis have constructed statues dedicated to her everywhere.
